Artform focus: Movement and dance

|

drama focus 6.jpgBare Toed Dance Company specialise in movement play and dance with the Early Years and primary school children. They have recently delivered a series of stimulating and inspiring workshops at Brandling Primary School as part of their Creative Partnerships project.

Pictured is the transport themed session for 3 - 5 year olds. Children enjoyed working with scarves and silk, whilst exploring various modes of transport to reinforce their class topic. There was a smile on every face for the duration of the session, which was well paced and structured, and ended with a relaxing meditation session. Sessions for older children were based on Romans and Ancient Egypt; Bare Toed can adapt sessions to any classroom topic.

Other Cultural Partners offering dance and movement based workshops include Dance City, DanceArtPlay, Melting Pot Arts and Gem Arts . For more details please see your Directory of Cultural Partners. Artform focus: Drama

|

drama focus 5.jpgSpark Training is one of the latest Cultural Partners to offer drama workshops. Delivered by Jacqueline Hobson, workshops are based on 'The Fish! Philosophy'. Using this philosophy, Jacqueline uses drama as a motivational tool, to develop a positive, empowering environment for learning.

Jacqueline has recently delivered a series of workshops at St. Agnes Primary School in Ryton. Based on The Forest Child by Richard Edwards, the workshops explored characters and storytelling in a fun and stimulating atmosphere, culminating in a performance. Jacqueline also provides a teacher's resource pack, allowing Ambassadors to continue the workshop.

The network involves a number of drama-based Cultural Partners, including Live Theatre, Konflux Theatre in Education, Monster Productions and Patsy Burn. Full details can be found in the Directory of Cultural Partners. If you have not received this by post please contact Hannahmackay@gateshead.gov.uk

The network includes many Cultural Partners who offer music based workshops. One of the latest to join is Beamworks 001.jpgStuart Freeland of BEAMworks. This exciting, accessible music technology workshop involves using a piece of equipment called a Soundbeam. Users - from toddlers to adults - use the Soundbeam to trigger notes, melodies, samples and sounds, by interrupting an invisible beam. Groups can record and distort their own voices, as well as create video or still image, which is triggered by the sound. Stuart recently delivered a BEAMworks workshop at Fell Dyke Primary School, where children delighted in creating music with the BEAMworks technology. The workshop provided a stimulating kinesthetic learning experience, whilst linking to Art & Design, Design & Technology, ICT, Music, Mathematics and PHSE.

Other Cultural Partners available for music based workshops with your learning setting include Arts Isiziba for African drumming sessions; Explore Music at the Sage Gateshead - a music research facility to compliment your visit to this world class music venue; Izon Audio Visual with their state of the art facilities where you can record your own music and video; Michaelmusic who can show you how to turn junk into musical instruments, and Piccolo Music's original singing and music sessions for under fives...
