Teachers Lab: Continuing Professional Development for Teachers
A new and exciting professional development programme that introduces teachers to a variety of easy to use drama tools and techniques to enhance professional practice in the classroom. The course will be led by a range of Live Theatre's practitioners with many years experience in the industry. No previous experience necessary just a desire to learn.
Teachers Lab: Playwriting for Primary
Thursday 24 September, 4 to 8pm. This practical workshop will take teachers through the process used by Live Theatre practitioners when working with pupils to help them to write their first play. Including a number of practical drama exercises designed to unlock creativity the session will include an introduction to playwriting from professional writers and directors providing teachers with the tools to deliver playwriting workshops in school. This course will be relevant to areas of the national curriculum, particularly speaking, listening and writing skills.
This event includes a buffet tea, session notes to take away, full of practical exercises to use in the classroom, and a ticket to see First Draft, Live Theatre's annual young writer's project, in October 2009.

Thursday 25 February, 4 to 8pm. This practical workshop will provide teachers with a range of ideas for using and structuring drama in a classroom context. It will explore areas such as drama games, creating character, storytelling, improvisation and how to plan workshops/lessons that engage and stimulate creativity in young people. This course will be relevant to areas of the national curriculum, particularly speaking and listening skills.

Schools tour Monday 21 to Friday 25 September
13.1 is a new play by award-winning young people's writer Mike Kenny commissioned as part of the Great North Run Cultural Programme. Two sisters are preparing to run 13.1 miles for a cause close to their heart. This funny and moving play follows their journey through the Great North Run. Live Theatre is now taking bookings for the school tour which will take place from Monday 21 to Friday 25 September 2009. First Draft
Thursday 22 to Saturday 24 October
First Draft is a unique annual project giving young people the opportunity to learn all about the process of writing for theatre. Year 5 pupils from St Michael's Primary school will be taking part in a series of playwriting workshops during the summer before the class select their six favourite stories. These imaginative authors will then have the chance to work on a one-to-one basis with some of the region's leading playwrights to help them develop their script ideas into 10 minute plays, which will then be directed and performed by professionals on the Main Stage at Live Theatre.
