Culture and Creativity Cross-Curricular Working Party

Walker Tech's Ambassador, Caroline Gregorio, has taken her role at its name and started a regular meeting of teachers from across the school, to create a forum to stimulate creativity and share learning.

The first meeting was in January 2009. Teachers were asked to prepare by thinking about how they already use Creativity in their daily work. As anticipated everyone had a different approach to this activity, some brought lists, others retold anecdotes and one drew a mind map. What became clear was that everyone was inspired and had great examples of how culture and creativity help, whatever they teach.

The discussion went onto considering 'How to offer Culture and Creativity across the curriculum'. Everyone contributed by sharing their ideas and experiences - and a few chocolate biscuits helped along the way.

We left with some questions:
Are there some examples of successfully using culture in maths?
How to get access to a wider range of recommended creatives and artists who can come into school?

It was great to see the whole school engaging in the questions which we work with everyday in the Network, and to see a hard working Ambassador being appreciated for their voluntary role.

Thanks go to Walker Tech for inviting me along. (Caroline Pearce)
