Rapper Sword dancers wanted!

rapper dance.jpg

Male and female dancers aged 11+ are invited to join a youth Rapper Sword Dance Team, which will perform at festivals and events.

The North East has a unique tradition of Rapper Sword Dancing. It was part of the heritage and legacy of the mining culture and has survived generations and pit closures because it is exciting, fast, skilled and a little bit dangerous! There are many adult teams still in the North East and also around the country and there is a widening interest in traditional dancing as an art form.

The group is currently being developed and seeks interested dancers aged 11 +. The Rapper teacher will be Ricky Forster of the High Spen Blue Diamonds with occassional support from other local dancers. It is likely that the group will meet at Gateshead Heritage Centre (next to the Sage Gateshead), 4.30 - 5.30 on Mondays, with additional rehearsals as required.

Young dancers are invited to come and try a free session on Monday 2nd March. The intension is to pay the tuition fees through bookings and grant support.
