Partner Showcase: Konflux Theatre
We're pleased to showcase the work of Konflux Theatre in Education, who are York-based, but travel all over the UK delivering workshops and performances. They use drama to develop a breadth of skills, such as confidence, citizenship, teamwork and concentration. Based on National Curriculum topics ranging from the environment to Shakespeare and history to healthy living, Konflux's 'Play in a Day' workshops are accessible to all.
Konflux's workshops begin with warm ups designed to build confidence and encourage team working. The rehearsals give children a sense of ownership of the play, encouraging them to explore what it'd be like to be evacuated, how Romeo may feel about Juliet, or what sort of super powers a healthy eater might posess. Children are given lines orally by the director, so that those with difficulty reading may participate fully. The day culminates in a fifteen minute performance to the rest of the school.
'Play in a Day' and 'Play in a Week' workshops are ideal for Year 5 upwards. Konflux offer a range of drama workshops for younger children, including Magic Airways, which involves a host of colourful characters with stories to tell and problems to solve. Whatever the age group, Konflux workshops are engaging, enjoyable and educational.
One of Konflux's latest workshops is Stone Soup, based on the principals of Philosophy for Children. This Key Stage Two workshop encourages children to consider bullying, community and injustice, whilst developing skills in storytelling and drama. The workshops have been well received by schools, earning the following praise;
"Fantastic, the children were engaged throughout and it provoked much thought and debate both during and after the session" Year 4 teacher, Hedworthfield Primary School, Tyne & Wear.
"The children were really challenged, it made them think on a deeper level than they might normally, especially about morals" Year 4 teacher, Simonside Primary School, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne.
Recently, Konflux Theatre generously donated a 'Play in a Day' workshop to the raffle at the Ambassadors' AGM. They are available for bookings and are happy to discuss your requirements.
